Roudybush reunion planned

The Roudybush reunion will be at noon Sunday, June 23, at Jim Brown’s Park and shelter house.

Tingley High School Alumni holds final banquet

The first Tingley High School Alumni Banquet was held in 1919. One hundred years later on Sat. May 25, the final banquet was held.

A total of 153 graduates and guests met at the Tingley Community Building. The Wagon Wheel Cafe prepared and served the meal.

After the meal, the honored classes were announced and then everyone introduced themselves and their guests.

Eight graduates passed away in the past year.

The group discussed what to do with the balance in the treasury. It was decided to donate a bench engraved with Tingley High School Alumni Association to the new city park on Main Street. Donations may be mailed to Mary Sue McIntosh, PO Box 81, Tingley, IA 50863.

Cromwell School Alumni Banquet held

The 88th Cromwell School alumni banquet was held May 25 at Supertel Inn and Conference Center in Creston.

President Connie Kinkade welcomed the 43 alumni, spouses and guests in attendance. Invocation was given by Kinkade.

After a meal catered by Spencer’s Chophouse and Tavern, Kinkade conducted the business meeting. Other 2019 officers include David Rhine, vice president and treasurer; and Mary Brunner, secretary. Volunteers assisting with the banquet include Tammy Rhine, Jerrie Henderson, Gerald Sticken and Wayne Gridley.

Deaths reported since the 2018 banquet included: Drexel Eschle, class of 1940; Dallas McLaughlin, class of 1942: Helen Hewett Blazek, class of 1945; Jack Butler, class of 1947; Dean McIntire, class of 1950; Marjorie Spriggs VanNausdle, class of 1951; Chet Abel, class of 1953; Diane Petrie Brown and Wilma Campbell Gamblin, class of 1955; Phyllis Kessler Focht, class of 1957: and Dick Bissell, class of 1961.

Honored classes were:

1944 — Jack Schobert is the only one still living from this class. He was unable to attend.

1949 — There are six Irving in this class. Those attending were Wayne Spriggs and Duane White.

1954 — There are five living in this class. Kenny Foster was the only one in attendance.

1959 — There are nine living in this class. Those attending were Fayrene Kessler Kuker, Robert Schobert and Richard Johnson.

1964 — There are 11 members in this class listed in our alumni book, but none of them attended the banquet.

The oldest class represented was 1948 with Betty Foley Jackson in attendance.

The secretary’s report was read by Mary Brunner. The treasurer’s report was read by David Rhine. A motion to approve the report was made by Duane White, seconded by Larry Bennett. The motion was approved.

With no nominations for new 2020 officers, a motion was made by Duane White, seconded by Kenny Foster, to keep the current officers. Motion was approved.

After a discussion on banquet locations, a motion was made by Jerrie Henderson, seconded by Gerald Sticken, to look at O’Riley Center as a location for the 2020 banquet. The motion was approved.

The meeting was conclWinners of a free dinner at the 2020 banquet were Larry Bennett and Connie Kinkade, class of 1962. Marian Campbell Drake, class of 1963; and Fayrene Kessler Kuker, 1959.

Winners of a potted plant were Wayne Spriggs, class of 1949; Mike Johnson and Craig Ross, guests of Bob Schobert, class of 1959; and Joni Houck, guest of Phyllis Mullin Houck, class of 1955.

The 89th banquet will be May 23, 2020, with 5 p.m. social hour and 6 p.m. dinner, at the O’Riley Center in Creston. Honored classes will be 1945, 1950, 1955, 1960 and 1965.
