Dannie Schafer

Corning

Dannie Schafer, 80, of Corning died Sunday, May 5, 2019, at CHI Health Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Pearson Family Funeral Service and Cremation Center is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the family to be determined. Online condolences may be left at www.pearsonfuneralhomes.com.

Dannie Roquell Schafer, son of Ronald and Viola (Houck) Schafer, was born Aug. 4, 1938, in Council Bluffs. Dannie attended country school and graduated with the Corning High School class of 1956. Dannie served proudly with the 34th Red Bull National Guard, retiring with the rank of sergeant. Dannie worked for the Corning School System for 34 years.

Dannie married Kathy Campbell and had three children, Marlys, Meegan and Mark.

On June 4, 1999, Dannie married Lorna (Long) Goodvin.

Dannie was a member of ABATE of Iowa (A Brotherhood Aimed Toward Education) and Southwest Valley Cruisers and a board member of Corning Opera House Cultural Center.

Dannie is survived by his wife Lorna; children, Marlys (Rich) Quimby of Oskaloosa, Kansas, Meegan (Dave) Harkey of Dubuque and Mark Schafer (Dawn Jackson) of Los Angeles, California; stepchildren, Renee Goodvin of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Angela Goodvin and Bill Kinnaird of Corning; grandchildren, Jessica (Nick) O’Hara, Lance (Sara) Quimby, Zach (Jarred) Mattison and Lauren Mattison; step-grandchildren, Oakley Goodvin and Slate Goodvin-Kinnaird; great-grandchildren, Addison, Tyler and Evelyn; sister-in-law Karen (Morris) Boswell; nieces, Emily (Huck) Boswell of Des Moines and Shannon (Donny) Harvey-Shannon of Fontanelle; nephew Ben (Lauren) Harvey of Colorado; great-nieces and -nephews, Aubrey Shannon, Karley Shannon, Shelby Mullen, Dyllan Shannon and Kolya Harvey; and great-great-nieces and -nephews, Hera, Rhea, Quinn and Teagan.

Dannie was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald and Viola.
