Norma Ruth (Weller) Winders, 92, of Greenfield died Friday, April 26, 2019, at Greenfield Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Greenfield.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 3, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Greenfield with burial in Greenfield Cemetery. A luncheon was held at the church following the committal service. Open visitation was from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 2, at Steen Funeral Home, 101 SE Fourth St., in Greenfield with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made to Kindred Hospice, 5399 Chimra Road, Panora, IA 50216. Norma Ruth (Weller) Winders, daughter of Bill and Lena Weller, was born Feb. 8, 1927, in Greenfield. Norma completed her formal education at Greenfield Schools, graduating from Greenfield High School in the class of 1945. During high school, Norma clerked after school at Wiig’s five and dime and spent the summer working at Greenfield Community Pool.
On May 26, 1945, Norma married Robert R. (Bob) Winders at her parents home. Bob came to Greenfield to work as a soil conservationist. Norma started her work career at Adair County Courthouse as a clerk, from there she ran the Selective Service (draft board) located in Greenfield. When the military draft was abolished, she became the secretary and assistant manager at Greenfield Manor.
Norma was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Greenfield.
Norma is survived by her nephews, Peter (Jennifer) Hughes and son Colin of California and Jeff (Jeanette) Weller of Oklahoma; niece Allyson of California; other relatives and friends.
Norma was preceded in death by her son Gregory in July 1954; husband Bob; parents, Bill and Lena; brother Dick (Mary) and sister Nancy (Pete).
