Raiders wrangle home relays

MOUNT AYR – The Mount Ayr boys took care of business at their home meet Tuesday, winning Class A by a wide margin in posting 182 points.

The Raiders doubled up on plenty of events to take heapings of team points and had their fair share of success in the relay events.

Hunter Haveman and Seth Shellman went one, two in the 100 meter dash with times of 11.61 and 11.63, respectively.

Haveman also took home the gold in the 200 meter dash.

In the 400 meter dash Hunter Arends and Payton Weehler swept the top spots, snagging 18 more team points for Mount Ayr.

Only two of the results counted for points, but Mount Ayr took second, third, fourth and fifth in the 800 meter run. Chase Smith and Nathan Hauge were second and third for the Raiders while Trae Ehlen and Alder Shay took fourth and fifth.

Isaac Timmerman won the 1,600 meter run and took second in the 3,200 while teammate Chase Smith was third in the 3,200.

In the 4x400 meter relay, Mount Ayr’s A and B teams finished first and second as Weehler, Connor Eaton, Haveman and Arends crossed the line in first by nearly 15 seconds.

The Raiders also won the 4x100 meter relay with Reas Knapp, Keelan Klommhaus, Kolben Klommhaus and Shellman.

Mount Ayr won the shuttle hurdle relay and took second in the distance medley while Dawson Frost and Kolben Klommhaus took third and fourth in the high jump.

Chase Henry launched the shot put 46 feet, 5 inches for a second place finish, missing the top spot by just two inches.

NV and SWV run in Class A

Nodaway Valley and Southwest Valley finished in sixth and ninth, respectively in Class A Tuesday.

Josh Baudler took over the 3,200 meter run with a first place finish by more than 10 seconds, while also taking second in the 1,600 meter run.

The Wolverines’ 4x800 meter relay unit took third behind Mount Ayr and Earlham as Tyler Breheny, Toby Bower, Clay Hohertz and Mason Menefee completed the event in 8:59.19.

Adam Ayase, Brady Hilpipre, Tony Ayase and Baudler brought the Wolverines another bronze medal in the distance medley in 4:03.11.

For Southwest Valley, the throwers once again led the way as Tallen Myers and Hunter Poston took first and second, respectively, in the discus. Jacob Webb was fourth for the Timberwolves in the discus as well.

Webb and Poston took third and fourth in the shot put behind Henry and Cale Anthony of Pleasantville.

"This continued success is a result of the dedication from our throws coach Keegan Longabaugh," said SWV head coach Cameron Kiner.

Another top finish came from Gabe Fuller took seventh in the 400 meter hurdles in 1:06.39.

The Timberwolves' distance medley and 4x400 meter relays both set season bests by five seconds or more.

Murray leads area schools in Class B

The Murray Mustangs took fifth in the Class B team points race with 51 team points, finishing ahead of East Union (34), Lenox (32.5), Diagonal (8) and Orient-Macksburg (5).

Reece Held continued to make noise in the high jump, taking the highest rank in the class after clearing 5-10.

Brycen Wookey took third in the shot put, missing the 40-foot mark by half an inch.

Damien Kitner secured third in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.42 while Colton Siefkas was second in the 1,600 behind Southeast Warren’s Randy Jimenez.

Lenox’s Brad Larson and Diagonal’s Clayton Hansen finished third and fourth, respectively, in the long jump. Larson also took fourth in the 100 meter dash.

Trey and Devin Whipple were second and fourth, respectively, in the discus with throws of 111-5 and 109 feet even.

East Union’s Cole Nelson was second in the 3,200 in 11:57.82 while O-M’s Blake Thompson took fourth. Thompson was also sixth in the 800 meter run.

Thea Eagles 4x800 relay team also snagged second place in Class B as Damon Hayes, Oxne Ibbotson, Evan Collins and Colton Mitchell crossed the line in 10:15.46.
