Ringgold County Sheriff Timothy Alvin Newton, 49, of Lamoni was charged with eluding law enforcement and driving while barred 4:30 p.m. Thursday in rural Lamoni. According to a Ringgold County Sheriff’s report, a deputy recognized Newton as a barred driver and attempted to make a traffic stop. Newton took off at a high rate of speed. While in pursuit with lights and sirens activated, the deputy’s speed was up to 95 mph in a 50 mph zone without gaining on Newton. Newton maintained this speed for several miles southbound on 320th Avenue until crashing at 320 Avenue and 320 Street. Newton was released on $2,000 bond. Taylor County Sheriff

Sebastian Gene Sweat, 19, of Blockton was charged with disorderly conduct 5:11 p.m. Saturday on the 500 block of Oak Street in Blockton.

According to a Taylor County Sheriff’s report, Sweat ran out onto the public road and started striking a truck with an object. The occupants exited the truck, and Sweat started a physical altercation with them.

Sweat was being held at the Taylor County Jail on $300 bond.
