Roger Lauer, 55, of Orient died Friday, April 12, 2019, at his home near Orient.

Celebration of life services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 18, at Steen Funeral Home, 101 SE Fourth St., in Greenfield with burial in Hill of Zion Cemetery in rural Orient with full military graveside rites by Greenfield American Legion Head-Endres Post No. 265 and V.F.W. Post No. 5357. A luncheon will be held at Orient United Methodist Church following the burial. The Rev. James Ahenkora will officiate the service. Visitation with family present will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Roger Lauer memorial fund to be determined. Roger William Lauer, son of Homer and Martha (Ward) Lauer, was born Sept. 7, 1963, in Creston. Roger grew up on the farm with his family south of Zion. He graduated from Orient-Macksburg High School in 1982. He joined the Air Force upon graduation. He graduated with honors from Lowry Air Force Base as an aircraft armament systems specialist, completed five skill levels in armament systems with honors and completed a non commissioned officer preparatory course. Upon discharge from the Air Force, he completed technical training from Universal Technical Institute.

Roger worked as a heating and cooling technician for Boyd’s Appliance in Creston, Neighbors Heating and Cooling in Ames and Farley’s in Creston. During his off hours, he farmed with his brother Ron.

Roger is survived by his brother Ron (Dee) Lauer; sisters, Kim (Burt) Maeder and Carrie (Jon) Powell; nieces and nephews, Stephanie (Jason) Lane – Jackson, Anna and Thomas, Sarah (Brad) Wilson – Bailey and Mason, Joseph (Amy) Maeder – Alivia, Charles and Calvin, Jessica (Dillon) Roberts – Kayla and Colton, Pamela (Josh) Kaufman – Gabe, Leah, Elsie and Nora, Roger (Meghan) Powell, Rebecca (Keith) Carrell, Kristin (Michael) Rote and Luke Powell; other relatives and friends.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents.
