Panthers battle conditions at LC

Creston/O-M takes fourth of 12 teams

COUNCIL BLUFFS – Unlike their counterparts, the Creston/O-M boys golf team was able to get into action Thursday, traveling to Lewis Central in the Fox Run Invite.

On a gusty day with falling temperatures a number of Panthers refused to let the wind influence their game in a negative way with four golfers finishing the 18-hole Invite with scores of 92 or below.

Overall, Creston/O-M finished in fourth place as a team of the 12 schools in attendance with a 344. Atlantic won the meet with a team score of 323.

The leader in the clubhouse for Creston/O-M was sophomore Colby Burg, who shot a 5-over 76 on the day.

“Colby did a nice job of battling the elements to come in with a great score,” said Panther head coach Jon Thomson.

Cole Strider shot a 41 on the front nine before hitting a 44 on the back stretch to end the day with an 85.

Brayton Chesnut and Rylan Luther flipped flopped on the day as Chesnut put together a 44 on the front nine and Luther put together a 44 on the back half.

In the end Chesnut entered the clubhouse after shooting a 91 while Luther ended the day with a 92.

Carson Thompson and Beau Thompson were the final two finishers for Creston/O-M with scores of 103 and 106, respectively.

Getting the meet in not only allowed the Panthers another 18 holes of competition, but it also gave Creston/O-M a sneak peek of the course for the Hawkeye 10 tournament.

“It was a great mix of teams and this is the same place we come back to for the Hawkeye 10,” said Thompson.

After the day was over Thomson was still pleased with the Panthers efforts and can feel Creston/O-M gaining traction.

“We are going in the right direction with scores and team confidence,” Thomson said. “We still have plenty of work to do and want the momentum to keep going.”

UP NEXT – Creston/O-M’s Friday meet at Pella has been canceled due to weather so the Panther boys will next hit the course Thursday, April 18 at home at Crestmoor Golf Course against Southwest Valley and Shenandoah.

The Panther girls will also face SWV and Shenandoah at home Thursday, but will play at Pine Valley Golf Course.
