Area golf roundup: NV, MA kick off season, SWV girls medal

NV, MA and SWV kick off season

MOUNT AYR – The trio of the Wolverines and the Raiders traveled to Mount Ayr to hit the links Wednesday, with MA shooting the team low of 191.

Nodaway Valley shot a 305 as a unit with Mitchael Britten shooting the low for the Wolverines with a 68.

Dalton Elwood led the way for the meet, shooting five over the nine hole par for a 40.

Elwood medaled in the meet with teammate Cayden Lambert shooting a 45 as the runner-up.

For the girls, Mount Ayr posted a team score of 217 while Nodaway Valley posted a 270.

Kaitlyn Dolecheck shot a 50, medaling in the event while Kylee Smith shot a 53, receiving runner-up honors.

The low scorers for Nodaway Valley were Megan Russell, shooting a 61 and Corinne Bond who scored a 68.

NV vs. MA

MOUNT AYR – The Mount Ayr boys came out on top at Mt. Ayr Golf & Country Club Tuesday, scoring a match best 180.

Nodaway Valley scored 288 as a unit with Wayne scoring 202.

Myles Greene shot an impressive 39, scoring four over par for the match low. Dalton Elwood scored a 44 and Cayden Lambert scored a 46 through their nine holes.

For the girls, the Raiderettes scored a 213, a match best, while Nodaway Valley shot a 253.

NV’s Cadee Firch shot the low for the girls with a 46, beating a 49 from Mount Ayr’s Hanna Ackley.

Kaitlyn Dolecheck scored a 53 and Elsie Schafer shot a 54 for the Raiderettes. Megan Russell shot a 62 and Corinne Bond tallied a 72 for the Wolverines.

MA, NV open season

MOUNT AYR – The season opener for Mount Ayr and Nodaway Valley boys ended with a Raider win, shooting a 191 and tallying the lowest individual score with Dalton Elwood’s 40.

Cayden Lambert had the other low for the match, shooting a 47.

Nodaway Valley’s team score of 305 consisted of Michael Britten’s 68, the team low, and Aryll Shantz’s 72.

MA’s Zach Doster shot under 50, scoring a 49 for the Raiders.

SWV vs. Red Oak

CORNING – Monday’s meet between Southwest Valley and Red Oak ended with Red Oak winning by default with a score of 189.

The Timberwolf boys were unable to field a full team, thus being unable to score team points in the meet.

On the girls end the Timberwolves were narrowly edged by Red Oak by a score of 219-233.

Abbie Wetzel medaled for Southwest Valley, shooting a 46.

Boys stats were unavailable at time of print.

SWV vs. CAM

CORNING – The Timberwolf girls dropped their match against CAM last Friday, scoring a 260 to 211.

Abbie Wetzel shot the team low, scoring a 57. She was followed by Maddie Ballard at 62 and Aubrey Boswell at 64.

The Southwest Valley boys did not field a full team, losing in team points. Connor Shipley shot a personal best with a 45, a score low enough for to be runner up.

Scotty Adcock shot a 51 and Henry Bevington shot a 77.

SWV vs. Bedford

CORNING – A short handed Southwest Valley boys team was unable to score points last Thursday as Bedford pulled away to win with a low score of 189.

Monte Wehrkamp and Brennan Sefrit both scored a 45 with Wehrkamp winning the medal due to a better score on the handicap hole. Sefit finished as the runner up.

Connor Shipley shot a personal best of 48 while Scotty Adcock scored a 53.
