Doris Kessler, 86, of Creston died Saturday, March 23, 2019, at Clearview Home in Mount Ayr.

Private family celebration of life memorial graveside services will be held at a later date. Private family burial will be at a later date in Prairie Lawn Cemetery north of Creston. In lieu of flowers, memorials are to the family of Doris Kessler. Online condolences may be left at www.powersfh.com.

Doris M. Kessler, daughter of Charles William Duben and Frieda Mae (Heuckendorf) Duben, was born Oct. 17, 1932, in Nevinville. Doris graduated from Nevinville High School in 1950.

She married Bill Kessler at the Kailua Community Methodist Church, while he was serving in the military, in Lanikai, Oahu, Hawaii.

After her husband served in the United States Marine Corps, they settled on a farm they farmed with his family, moving to Creston in 1966. She worked as an active homemaker and farmwife before taking a job as a meat cutter at the Creston Locker where she worked until it was destroyed by a fire. She later worked at Innovative Industries as a supervisor for 13 years. She then worked at Taco John’s as a greeter and prep cook for the next eight years, until she retired in 2016. In December 2016, they moved to Clearfield, and later, to Mount Ayr.

Doris was a member of Peppy Steppers Square Dance Club, Creston First United Methodist Church and Cozy Campers, and she served as Girl Scout leader for many years. She was also a part of South Side Boosters and helped with Christmas decorating at Rainbow Park.

Doris is survived by her daughter in-law Sharon Kessler of Creston; son-in-law Alan Smisek of Creston; grandchildren, Josh Kessler (Amy Willett) of Afton, Jamie (Emily) Kessler of Winterset, David Clark (Brooke Coats) of Grand Junction, Colorado, and Melissa Clark of Creston; great-grandchildren, Ashlyn Clark, Colin Kessler, Alyssa Clark, Madison Kessler, Dakota Clark, Mariah Clark, Kyson Kessler and Ben Kessler; sister Anna Mae Moffett of San Jacinto, California; nieces and nephews and many friends.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill in 2018, daughter Marlene Smisek in 2010 and son Marvin Kessler in 2016.
