Quilts of Valor awarded to Williamson American Legion members

The Williamson American Legion Squadron 719 hosted a reception Thursday evening, March 7, to honor longtime members John Blazek and Daryl Rechtenbach as they received their Quilts of Valor from Marlene Mullin of Creston. Rechtenbach joined the Williamson Legion 44 years ago and Blazek became a member 67 years ago, when he returned from the Korean War.

Marlene created both of the quilts and represented the Quilts of Valor Foundation in the presentation. She told the recipients and those present that the mission of the Quilts of Valor Foundation is to cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor.

Blazek lives in rural Prescott and Rechtenbach is from Bridgewater. Joining Blazek and Rechtenbach were their families, members of the Williamson American Legion family, Iowa 7th District Commander Joe Jardon, 7th district Vice Commander Gary Whipple and Iowa Sons of the American Legion Commander Alan Schenck.
