Sherry Dowdell was born Sept. 29, 1938, in Creston. She graduated from Creston High School in 1956, and married her high school sweetheart, Gordon C. Taylor. Together they had three children, Kim Taylor of Plymouth, Minnesota, Daniel (Lori) Taylor of Mason City and M. Jack (Vicki) Taylor of Ames.
After raising her children, Sherry moved to Walker, Minnesota, where she lived for 31 years. She loved the outdoors of Northern Minnesota, living near her family and grandkids and Walker’s small-town environment. She worked at several local Walker businesses including Fisher’s Houseboats, The Tackle Box, Bieloh’s IGA, Thrifty White Drug and The Little Apple Book store. Sherry left Walker in 2013 to return to Mason City, desiring to be near her Iowa family during her retirement years.
Left to cherish her memory are her three children, Kim, Dan and Jack, and her seven grandchildren, John Winkler, Rian (Chris) Mitchell, Kelly (Adam Jensen) Nelson, Daniel Nelson, Chelsea (Jacob Martinson) Taylor, Keaton Taylor and Riley Taylor. Sherry is also survived by three great-grandchildren and her two brothers, Gene Dowdell of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Carl Dowdell of Creston.
Preceding her in death are her parents.
Her family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at the IOOF Home and Hospice of North Iowa for their love and care of Sherry.
