Charles “Charlie” Weil, 71, of Afton died Thursday, March 7, 2019, at EveryStep Greater Regional Hospice Home in Creston.

Celebration of life services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, at Powers Funeral Home, 601 New York Ave., in Creston. The Rev. Mary O'Riley will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Creston. Military rites will be by Theodore J. Martens, Creston VFW Post No. 1797. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 11, at the funeral home with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday. Memorials are to the family to be determined. Charles Mathew Edward Weil, son of Charles Mathew Weil and Lorraine Lysher, was born Aug. 20, 1947, in Clarinda. Charlie started school in Gravity, and graduated from Bedford Community High School in 1965. Shortly after graduation, he began working at Hills McCanna, which later became Wellman Dynamics, as a molder. On Oct. 25, 1966, Charlie joined the military and served his country until Oct. 25, 1968, as a part of the United States Army.

On June 3, 1968, he married Letha O. Wyant in Red Oak. After marrying, they lived in Gravity. In 1970, they moved to Creston, and he continued to work at Wellman as a molder. They later divorced. Charlie retired in 2015 after 50 years.

Charlie was a member of Christian Church in Gravity.

Charlie is survived by his brother Eldon Weil of Corning, niece Theresa Waters and nephew Matt Weil.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents and ex-wife Letha.
