Norman “Norm” Burl Jennings, 89, of Mount Ayr died Monday, March 4, 2019, at Mount Ayr Health Care Center.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 9, at Regular Baptist Church in Mount Ayr with burial in Grand River Cemetery at Grand River. Open visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Friday, March 8, at Armstrong Funeral Home, 205 W. Monroe St., in Mount Ayr with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Norm, son of Clark and Mary (Young) Jennings, was born Aug. 13, 1929, on the family farm near Beaconsfield. Norm graduated from Ellston High School with the class of 1946.
On Dec. 31, 1948, Norman married Gertrude Alice Ross of Shannon City at the Tingley Methodist parsonage. Until 1953, Norm farmed in partnership with his father. He entered the electrical field in 1956, becoming one of the early installers of electric heat in this part of Iowa. While living in Creston, Norm stepped into residential and commercial electrical heating. The family moved to Cedar Rapids, where he specialized in industrial commercial electrical installations. He was active in the electrical career for 62 years. For about 15 years, he was employed by De Vries Electric of Pella. During those years, Norm travelled from coast to coast, working as an electrician and supervisor in numerous and varied projects. In 1997, Norm semi-retired to Ellston, but continued involvement with electrical projects. Gert died Sept. 25, 1998.
On Dec. 16, 2000, Norm married Marian Bennett England, and resided in Mount Ayr.
Norm is a member of Regular Baptist Church in Mount Ayr.
Norm is survived by his wife Marian Jennings of Mount Ayr; sons, Bill (Elaine) Jennings and Dwight (Debra) Jennings; daughter Linda (Ronnie) Binning; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Sharene (Michael) Culp, Steven (Denae) England, Scott (Jodi) England and Shad (Jody) England; and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Norm was preceded in death by his wife Gertrude; parents, Clark and Mary Jennings; sisters, Ione (Ward) Wight and two-year-old Mary Margaret; brother David (Wilmina) Jennings; daughter Beth Strange; granddaughter Hiedi Strange; great-granddaughter Chloe Jennings; son-in-law Jim Dukes and grandson-in-law Rob Wilson.
