Iowa ag prices compared from past 2 years

DES MOINES – The average price received by farmers for corn during December in Iowa was $3.53 per bushel according to the latest USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service – “Agricultural Prices” report. This was up 13 cents from the November price and 33 cents above December 2017.

The December 2018 average price received by farmers for soybeans, at $8.40 per bushel, was down 9 cents from the November price and 80 cents below the December 2017 price.

The December average oat price per bushel was $3.40, down 21 cents from November, but 27 cents above December 2017.

All hay prices in Iowa averaged $138 per ton in December. This was up $14 from the November price and up $34 from the December 2017 price. The December 2018 alfalfa hay price averaged $145, up $18 from the previous month and $28 above December 2017. The average price received for other hay during December was $128 per ton. This was up $15 from the November price and $45 above the December 2017 price.

The average price was $16.30 per cwt for milk, down 20 cents from the November price and $1.20 below one year ago. Prices received for milk cows for dairy herd replacement averaged $1,080 per head as of Jan. 1.
