Helen “Polly” Hill, 95, of Creston died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2019.

Celebration of life service will be 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at Powers Funeral Home, 601 New York Ave., in Creston. The Rev. Ken Halbur will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Creston. Open visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at the funeral home with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday. Memorials can be given to Care Initiatives Hospice.

Helen Pauline “Polly” Hill, daughter of Nora (McDonald) Vanderpluym and Charles Vanderpluym, was born Feb. 8, 1924, in Diagonal. Polly graduated from Diagonal High School in 1942.

On Dec. 19, 1951, Polly married Eldon David “Al” Hill in Virginia. They settled in Washington, D.C., where she worked as a secretary for the Civil Service, a part of the Department of the Navy for 10 years. She transferred to Offutt Air Force Base and lived in the Omaha, Nebraska, area continuing her career as a secretary to the chaplain’s office for the next 26 years. Polly retired in 1980.

Following retirement in the early 1980s, they moved to Creston, where she volunteered with Meals on Wheels and hospice. Polly was a former member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Polly is survived by her husband Al Hill of Creston and sister Maxine May of Creston.

Polly was preceded in death by her parents.
