Cherrie Lee Palmer, 30, of Afton was charged with third-degree theft 1:55 p.m. Thursday at 1700 W. Townline St.

According to a Creston Police report, an officer was called to Fareway for the theft of a backpack. After speaking to the victim and the store manager and viewing video footage, Palmer was identified as the person who took the backpack. The officer checked with a local pawn broker who said Palmer had not attempted to sell the items, but pointed out she could be found at Greater Regional Health. The officer caught up to Palmer at Greater Regional Health where she admitted to taking the backpack.

Palmer was being held on $2,000 bond.

Chad Sterling Cozad, 29, 622 N. Maple St., was charged with third-offense possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia 1:58 a.m. Sunday at 204 N. Vine St.

According to a Creston Police report, an officer was dispatched for a reckless driver in a white Dodge driving north on North Division Street. The vehicle was located and pulled over at the corner of East Howard and North Vine. Upon making contact with Cozad, the officer smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The officer asked Cozad where the marijuana was and Cozad reached between the door and the driver’s seat and produced a rolled white piece of paper as well as a green rolled piece of paper with a green leafy substance consistent with marijuana inside. During a search of the vehicle, the officer also found a small pipe with marijuana residue.

Cozad was being held on $5,300 bond.
