DES MOINES — Former Northwest Missouri State All-American defensive end Collin Bevins of Creston has signed a contract to play the 2019 season with the Iowa Barnstormers, head coach Dixie Wooten announced Wednesday.

Bevins (6-5, 275 pounds) joins the Barnstormers for his first season in the Indoor Football League (IFL). He was most recently in the Hendrick Motorsports developmental program as a tire carrier in the organization’s pit crew in Charlotte, N.C.

On Thursday Bevins was busy lining up housing in the Des Moines area to begin practice this weekend. He was unavailable for comment.

Last year the Barnstormers won the United Bowl as IFL champions.

Bevins began his collegiate career as a redshirt freshman at Iowa State University before transferring to Northwest Missouri State University.

At Northwest Missouri State, Bevins played in 52 games and helped the Bearcats win consecutive Division II national championship (2015-16). Bevins is the career record-holder with 58.5 tackles for loss and 34.0 sacks.

As a junior in 2015, Bevins was named the MIAA co-defensive player of the year after he set school single-season marks with 26.5 tackles for loss and 15.5 sacks. As a senior he was a first-team All-American after collecting 61 tackles, 8.5 sacks and 15.5 tackles for loss.

After his Bearcat career, Bevins was picked up by the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent on April 29, 2017. He announced the end of his football career a month later, but was signed in January 2018 by the Cleveland Browns to a futures deal. He was waived in March 2018.

After attending a skills combine in North Carolina last year, he was signed to a developmental deal by Hendrick Motorsports in September 2018.

“Collin will be a great defensive lineman,” Wooten said. “I expect him to come to camp and show why the NFL brought him in. The weapons he brings are his strength and his big-time motor. He’s going to be a force.”

The Iowa Barnstormers will face off against the Green Bay Blizzard in their home opener at Wells Fargo Arena on Saturday, March 9.

Season tickets for the Iowa Barnstormers 2019 season are available starting at $80 per seat. For more information, call the Barnstormers office (515)633-2255 or go online at www.theiowabarnstormers.com.
