SIOUX CITY — Briar Cliff University senior Jay Wolfe of Creston was named NAIA Division II men’s basketball Player of the Week after averaging 32 points, 8.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists in two games between Dec. 31 and Jan. 8.
Wolfe had 26 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists in a 106-103 overtime victory over Hastings (Nebraska). In a 111-90 victory over Midland (Nebraska) University, Wolfe compiled 38 points, six rebounds and four assists.
Wolfe leads the Chargers this season in scoring (22.0 points per game), rebounding (6.8), assists (3.2) and steals (1.6).
In a battle of NAIA top 25 teams Wednesday, seventh-ranked Briar Cliff beat No. 21 Jamestown 86-70 at the Newman Flanagan Center. Wolfe had 10 points and seven assists for the Chargers. Junior Jackson Lamb of Nodaway Valley contributed 14 points for Briar Cliff, including 11 in the first half.
Briar Cliff (15-3 overall, 9-2 GPAC), looks to gain the 1,000th victory in program history Saturday in Seward, Nebraska in a 4 p.m. contest against Concordia.
