James Asmus Osceola

James Edwin Asmus was born Oct. 18, 1950, to John Eugene and Ann Genelle Morrow Asmus in Osceola. Jim attended country school until sixth grade, when he entered Clarke Community Schools and graduated in 1968, after which he attended a winter farm course at ISU.

In the summer of 1969, he met Vicki Harris of New Virginia. They were united in marriage in April of 1970. To this union, three children were born, Jeffrey, Joel and Morgan.

Jim and Vicki lived and farmed in the East Chapel neighborhood where they settled into farming with his father. The weak farm economy forced them to move to Mississippi, where Jim worked on a large Simmental cattle ranch. Jim and Vicki moved many times as Jim changed jobs, always working for Simmental cattle operations. In 2009, they moved home to Osceola.

Jim helped Max Oliver in his cattle operation, until he began suffering from strokes. Vicki cared for him for several years. In September of 2018, Jim entered the nursing home, and in November, had emergency surgery. Jim was then brought to West Vu Nursing Home in Indianola, where he passed away Dec. 21, 2018, at 68 years of age.

Services will be Saturday, Jan. 19, at LifePoint Assembly of God Church in Osceola. Visitation will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m., followed by the funeral. Cookies and coffee will be served following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Osceola Big Chief FFA chapter.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Vicki of Osceola; son Jeff and wife Tina of Lakemoor, Illinois; son Joel and wife Angela of Fishers, Indiana; daughter Morgan and husband Andrew of West Des Moines; grandchildren, Zach, Cody, Lilly, Isabella, Evelyn and Quincy; as well as other relatives and many friends.
