Hanson Fitness moves to new location

Hanson Fitness will re-open today and start the new year in a new location, 509 W. Taylor St.

This will be the third move for the gym and will add more square footage for Tyler and Tori Hanson who envision Hanson Fitness to have a more family-oriented atmosphere.

Tyler said the old space was tight and he felt that may have intimidated some members. With the new space, they were able to spread the equipment out, add showers and create a more gym-like look and feel.

“The first one we had was 1,700 square feet,” said Tyler Hanson. “One year later, we went to 3,200 square feet, and now we’re at 6,000 square feet.”

Tyler started weight training with his father when he was 12-years-old and has been doing it for 25 years. After he graduated from college, he decided he wanted to own a gym.

Hanson Fitness offers 24-hours access, customized workout programs, nutrition programs and online coaching. Tyler will do personal one-on-one training, and he’s started adding small group training as well.

“A lot of people seem more interested in that,” said Tyler. “Plus it’s going to be a lot cheaper for everyone. One-on-one training is $250 a month. Group training is going to be $100 a month. Some people like it better than one-on-one. They feel more comfortable.”

Tyler said he also wants to get more student athletes. Although the high school has a good training program for them, Tyler said the groups are larger making it harder for the trainers to offer focused attention on each athlete. He hopes that the lower group rate will encourage them to come in and get a little extra help.

The Hansons said they want families to feel comfortable at Hanson Fitness, so they are offering two weeks of free personal training to every member of the family with the purchase a one-year family membership as part of their grand re-opening.

Tyler said there are a few things left to do, including the addition of a wheelchair accessible parking lot in the back. In the future, he would also like to add new cardio equipment.

“We’ve got good cardio equipment now, but we want to kind of upgrade and expand it,” said Tyler.

Tori operates a salon, Color Secret, which will also move into the new location, where she will offer hair care, permanent makeup and spray tan services.
