We are only five days away from having another year in the history books. The year had plenty of ups and downs. The stock market started up but ended down. Gas prices started the year up and by the end of the year were down. In fact on my weekly visits to Newton the gas price has been at $1.90 for super unleaded the last two weeks. Hoping that pricing comes a little farther south! It’s about 17-20 cents more expensive here.
Make the best use of our last five days of the year. 2019 is just begging to get it’s due. 2019 in China is the year of the Pig! That could be germane to Iowa also being the largest hog producing state.
Earlier this year I did the “sleeve surgery” and have done well losing weight. I’m down 112 pounds in less than a year. It sure has made bending over an easier task! I know a lot of people around the area have done the surgery this year and are having similar results. Sometimes you wonder why you wait so long to do things that will help you out. If losing weight is one of your new year’s resolutions and you are way overweight like I was. This surgery is definitely worth looking into.
The new Casey’s on Highway 25 on the north end of town sure is taking shape fast with the framing of the building going up in about three days.
I still marvel at all the dirt they moved to put the new store in. The place is a real beehive of activity.
Too many deer
I cannot believe all the deer dead along the highways and roads in the area. There seems to be a record number of the animals around. I’ve come close to hitting a couple but so far have avoided the darn things. I also got hit by a “flock” of turkeys crossing the road. The first group were airborne flying at about eight feet and a large group were running across the road at the same time. I did get stopped in time and no turkeys died in the event!
I heard of quite a few local folks taking off for the Iowa State bowl game down in San Antonio. The river walk is a fun place to visit. I believe all the fans will have a fun time and lets hope they stay out of the river! I’ve not heard from any of the local Iowa fans that are headed to Florida for that bowl game. I think the Iowa fans have been to Florida too many times and have lost the luster to go there again.
This is time of the year where a big “Thank You” is owed to many people. My first one goes out to all the people and businesses that have supported the Creston Publishing papers and shoppers. Without all our great readers and advertisers we wouldn’t be here. The next “Thank You” goes out to all the people that help us put the news together. We depend on a lot of local public officials and general folks to keep us informed so that we can keep you informed. The biggest “Thank you” I have is for all the wonderful employees of the Creston Publishing Company. We are blessed with a great group of hard working people. They enjoy what they do and are a lot of fun to be around. Here’s wishing everyone a wonderful holiday season and a great start to the new year.
