Supervisors purchase DHS building

The Union County Board of Supervisors received updates on insurance costs regarding the new EMS communications system, approved a board appointment, authorized a building purchase, and discussed options for billing of the city and school elections at its regularly scheduled meeting Monday.

Phil Tyler of Tyler Insurance Services, Inc. updated the board on changes to the insurance due to the EMS communications system. Currently the equipment is on a type of plan called an “insurance floater,” said Tyler. This insures the equipment wherever it is located.

The annual cost of the current plan is approximately $11,000, and the equipment will remain on this plan until all parts are distributed to their intended locations. At the time they are moved, the equipment will be added to each locations insurance policy.

The supervisors approved the appointment of Betty Wallace to the compensation board.

The board authorized distribution of funds in the amount of $250,000 for the purchase of 201 N. Elm St., the new DHS location.

Previously, city and school election have been held individually on different dates. In 2019 these elections will be combined and take place Nov. 5.
