Girls area roundup: Murray, Lenox pick up convincing wins

Mormon Trail 52, Orient-Macksburg 48

ORIENT – Mormon Trail downed Orient-Mackburg on Friday, 52-48.

The matchup featured Kaela Eslinger dropping a game-high 27 points. Hailey Johnson also scored 10 points for O-M.

Mormon Trail’s scoring was led by Alexis Roberts with 16 points. Chelsea Johnson also was able to score 10 points in the win.

Murray 75, Moulton-Udell 29

MURRAY – Murray grabbed its fourth win of the season on Friday, improving to 4-4 on the season. Moulton-Udell fell to 2-5.

Bre Klein led the Mustangs in scoring with 19 points. She also had 10 rebounds, enough for a double double.

Ally Waske also had 12 points for the Mustangs.

Chelsey Boettcher led Moutlon-Udell in scoring with nine points.

Moravia 52, East Union 16

MORAVIA – East Union dropped its sixth straight last Thursday, falling to Morvaia 52-16.

Moravia racked up 21 steals and six blocks in the win, both season highs.

EU was led in scoring by Sarah Kirkland with four points. She also collected five rebounds.

Moravia’s Anaya Keith led the scoring for the Mohawks, posting 11. She also grabbed eight rebounds, and collected four steals and four assists.

Lenox 56, East Union 30

AFTON – East Union dropped its seventh game in a row on Friday, falling to Lenox 56-30.

Lenox was led by TJ Stoaks, nearly outscoring the Eagles with 23 points. She also had 10 rebounds, securing a double double.

Jordan England fell one point short a double double, scoring nine points and collecting 11 rebounds.

East Union was led in scoring by Callie Grossman with 10 points. She also led in steals with eight.

Southwest Valley 50, Southeast Warren 31

CORNING – Southwest Valley improved to 5-3 on Friday, beating Southeast Warren 50-31.

Southwest Valley’s scoring exploded in the second quarter, outscoring the Warhawks 20-7 in the second quarter to pull ahead by 13 going into the second half. An 8-0 fourth quarter secured the win for the Timberwolves.

Morgan Shuey and Jentry Schafer both scored 13 points for the Timberwolves in the win. Schafer was able to grab 15 rebounds, her first double double of the season.

Southeast Warren saw scoring come by Avery Cashen, Taylor Clendenen, and Payton Nelson, all scoring seven points each. Josie Hartman led the team in rebounding with 14.

Mount Ayr 64, Wayne 51

MOUNT AYR – Mount Ayr won its third straight on Friday, securing a win over Wayne, 64-51.

Sam Stewart led Mount Ayr in scoring, racking up 28 points. She also had four assists and five steals.

Rachael Sobotka had a monster night on the glass, leading the Raiders in rebounding with 19.

Jayce Knight also scored 11 for the Raiders, collecting seven rebounds.
