Boys area roundup: East Union sneaks out win; Southwest Valley, Mount Ayr roll

Mormon Trail 81, O-M 55

ORIENT – The O-M boys fell last Friday to Mormon Trail, 81-55. The loss makes it four straight for the Bulldogs.

Mormon Trail was on fire in the first half, scoring 61 points to O-M’s 21.

O-M’s Noah Nichols racked up 21 points, falling a rebound shy of a double double with nine.

Blake Thompson also scored 21 points, hitting six shots from 3-point range.

Moravia 57, East Union 42

MORAVIA – Moravia topped East Union for its seventh straight win last Thursday, improving to 8-1. East Union falls to 1-5.

East Union was led in scoring by Cale Ecklund with 13 points. Kaden Kirkland also added to the scoring with nine points, collecting 10 rebounds in the process.

East Union 31, Lenox 29

AFTON – East Union snapped itslosing streak last Friday, improving to 2-5. Lenox dropped its sixth straight, falling to 1-6.

The low scoring affair had Colton Mitchell lead EU in scoring with 11, collecting nine rebounds.

Kaden Kirkland scored only four, but grabbed a team-high 19 rebounds.

The Tigers’ Carter Still scored a team-high eight points, assisting on three scores and grabbing two steals.

Southwest Valley 54, Southeast Warren 26

CORNING – Southwest Valley beat Southeast Warren last Friday, winning 54-26.

Southwest Valley defense held Southeast Warren to 12 points through three quarters, grabbing a total of 14 steals and five blocks in the game.

Dustin Lund dropped 20 points for the Timberwolves, a team high. Jacob Webb and Christian McCuen scored 13 and 11, respectively.

Mount Ayr 68, Wayne 35

MOUNT AYR – Mount Ayr cruised to a win on Friday over Wayne, 68-35.

Mount Ayr led going into the half 33-8 after leaving Wayne scoreless in the first quarter.

A team-high 18 points from Payton Wheeler helped extend the Mount Ayr lead, along with 12 points apiece from Dawson Frost and Issac Grose.

Frost would finish with 12 rebounds, enough for a double double.

Myles Greene also led the Raiders in assists with 10. He also scored seven points.

Murray 76, Moulton-Udell 22

MURRAY – Murray dominated Moulton-Udell last Friday, winning 76-22. The win is the team’s sixth of the season, improving to 6-1.

Devin Slaughter led the scoring for the Mustangs with 14 points. He was able to grab six rebounds and assist on six scores, all team highs.

Josh Webb and Jimmy Graham scored 13 and 10 points, respectively, for the Mustangs.

The Mustangs were able to dominate the offensive end when it came to rebounding, almost grabbing more offensive rebounds (14) than their defensive rebounds (16).

The Mustangs also grabbed 13 steals on their way to the win.
