Irvin “I.D.” Froit, 93, of Shannon City died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2018, at Afton Care Center.

Celebration of life funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, at Powers Funeral Home, 612 N. Dodge St., in Afton. The Rev. Dwayne Henrichs will officiate. Burial will be in Beulah Cemetery, northwest of Thayer, with full military honors provided by Theodore J. Martins Post No. 1797 Creston VFW. Open visitation with family present will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. service time Monday, Dec. 17, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to the family to be determined at a later date. Online condolences may be left at www.powersfh.com.

Irvin Duane “I.D.” Froit, son of Lucille Roxie (Pickel) and Harry Edward Froit, was born Aug. 30, 1925, in Murray. I.D. was educated in a Murray country school. He worked at the rock quarry for a short time. In January 1944, I.D. joined the United States Navy and did active service for two years in Hawaii. Following his honorable discharge in May 1946, I.D. settled in Afton and began working for the railroad in a variety of positions.

I.D. married Luetta M. Jennings, and to this union, four children were born. They settled in Afton, and later divorced.

I.D. married Louise Bata, and to this union, a son was born. They settled in Creston, and later divorced.

On Sept. 28, 1976, I.D. married Wanda Mae Johnson in Winterset. They settled in Creston, and in 1977, they moved to Shannon City. I.D. retired from the railroad Aug. 30, 1987, after 43 years of service.

I.D. is survived by his children, Linda (Harvey Sr.) Van Heeswyk of Afton, Debora Hudson of Des Moines, Edward Froit of Creston and Montelle Froit of Afton; stepchildren, Richard Daub of Denver, Colorado, and Windy (Dale) Thornton of Shannon City; grandchildren, Rob (Robin) Van Heeswyk of Pleasant Hill, Regina (Brent) Lumpkin of Stafford, Missouri, Michael (Karie) Hudson of Afton, Danny Froit of Afton and Ivan Froit of Flippin, Arkansas; great-grandchildren, Wesley, Brandon, Bradley, Cory, Cody, Natasha (Mark), Jacob, Wyatt, Ashley, Katelyn, Rachel, Lauren, Christopher, Jaden and Alex and great-great-granddaughter Rebecca.

I.D. was preceded in death by his parents; brother Chester Froit; sisters, Marjorie Henries and Leta Hartsook; grandson Harvey Van Heeswyk Jr.; son Douglas Froit and granddaughter Angel Daub.
