E15 needs to be available year-round

Recently, President Donald Trump delivered on his promise to rural America by ordering the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to lift its summertime restrictions on the sale of E15 fuel, which contains 15 percent ethanol. Now it’s time to deliver on Trump’s pledge to grant Iowa farmers greater market access by ensuring the EPA makes E15 available to be sold at gas stations year-round.

Simply put, E15 increases the demand for corn across Iowa and drives up struggling commodity prices. In years past, the EPA has restricted the sale of E15 during the summer months, thanks to outdated regulations. I have farmed in Iowa for many years, and it is clear that restricting fair access to renewable fuels directly impacts profitability and the health of rural economies.

Fortunately, we have leaders such as Senator Joni Ernst and Senator Chuck Grassley on the front lines fighting for Iowa farmers. I’m confident that our senators will continue to work for rural Iowa and convince the EPA to follow Trump’s orders to make E15 available year-round. This will be a major victory our state.
