Curtis Burdell Burgus, 92, of Murray died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2018, at Greater Regional Health in Creston.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, at Kale Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St., in Osceola with the Rev. Marty Burgus officiating. Visitation with family present will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Murray Cemetery at a later date. Curtis Burdell Burgus, son of Herbert L. Burgus and Lora M. (Stierwalt) Burgus, was born March 30, 1926, in Murray. Curtis received his education in Murray, graduating from Murray High School in 1943.  Following high school, Curt enlisted with the United States Navy and served his country during the World War II, attaining the rank of Electrician’s Mate Third Class.

On April 6, 1947, he married Nora L. (Kepple) Burgus at Osceola. Curt was a lifetime farmer, and had also owned and operated Burgus Oil Company for more than 12 years.

He was involved in Murray Lions Club, Murray Development Corporation, Murray City Council and Murray Little League coach and board member. He was also involved with the William-Lochrie American Legion Post No. 405, serving in many capacities, as well as a former Murray Volunteer Fire Department member.

Curt is survived by his children, Kris (Don) Carrico of Murray, Dean (Sandra) Burgus of Des Moines and Nancy (Mark) Schieterle of Kansas City, Kansas; foreign exchange son Andres Botero of Columbia, South America; grandchildren, Jamie Black of Murray, Angie (Josh) Blades of Leon, Jeremy (Sami) Carrico of Appleton, Wisconsin, Niki Black of Murray, Patty (Chris) Norgaard of Ankeny and Chris (Mark) Rask of Bellevue, Illinois; 17 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; brother Gene (Helen) Burgus of Murray; sister-in-law Dorothy Burgus of Murray; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Curt was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Lora; wife Nora; brother Jr. Burgus; brother-in-law Adrian Fuller; sister-in-law Irene Fuller and nephew Kenny Burgus.
