Peggy Nicholls, 88, of Winterset, formerly of Afton, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018, at Winterset Care Center North.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, at Powers Funeral Home, 612 N. Dodge St., in Afton. The Rev. Joel Sutton will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Afton. Open visitation with family present will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. service time Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Afton United Methodist Church. Peggy Joyce Nicholls, daughter of Maude Ila (Maxwell) and Arch Nicholls, was born April 24, 1930, in Indianola. Peggy moved with her parents to Union County near Afton in 1942, where she attended East Union Schools. For a short time Peggy worked for Earl May Nursery and Seed Company in Shenandoah. After returning to the Afton area, she cleaned homes in the Afton area.

Peggy was a member of Afton United Methodist Church and 50-year member of Rebekah Lodge No. 39, where she achieved many honors on the local and state level.

Peggy is survived by several cousins and a host of friends.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, sister Helen (Joe) McGrath and special friend Bernard Rickets.
