Accident

Douglas Alan Brightwell, 54, was cited for failure to stop in an assured clear distance following an accident 3:57 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of North Sumner Avenue and West Howard Street.

According to a Creston Police report, Joel Sebastian Juarez Lopez, 35, address unknown, was traveling north on North Sumner Avenue in a 2006 Hyundai, Linda Susan Ibbotson, 67, of Creston was behind him in a 2003 Dodge and Brightwell was behind her in a 1994 Ford. Juarez Lopez had slowed down to let a car yield, Ibbotson also slowed down, and Brightwell struck the rear end of Ibbotson’s vehicle, pushing her into Juarez Lopez’s vehicle in a chain reaction. Brightwell said he wasn’t paying attention and braked too late to avoid the accident. Brightwell was transported by ground ambulance for possible injuries sustained in the accident.

Estimated damages were $1,000 to Juarez Lopez’s vehicle and $5,000 each to Ibbotson’s and Brightwell’s vehicles.
