From Jim Stalker
I’d like to thank all those people who voted in the Primary election when I ran against Rick Friday for supervisor. After reading Creston News Advertiser’s story about Rick and his qualifications as a farmer and to hold the position, I am clearly out flanked. His residential location in the far northeast corner of the county, will give that area better representation, as will the Dale Cline residence near Shannon City and Kent.
I have been a city boy most of my life and clearly not involved with rural problems other than the eight years I was a meter reader for Iowa Southern Utilities, and then, only daily conversations with my customers, rural and in the towns I read. My experiences with people in general has been good. Working these years and another 40-plus years trying to sell books has afforded me great interactions with people.
And then retirement set in. After a couple of years, I decided it was overrated and underpaid. That’s when I decided I could better serve people’s needs by running for a public office. Hence: county supervisor. The people of the county said no. It was the right decision they made for me.
Now I’ve got about 50 professionally painted signs that will be painted over, not counting the one that was stolen, to add your own message for a mere $3 each.
