Ardeth Nadine Chesnut, 94, of Boone, formerly of Greenfield, passed away Monday morning, Oct. 22, 2018, at Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone.

She was born on Oct. 25, 1923, in Casey, the daughter of Emerson and Flossie (Brownlee) Correll.

On June 18, 1949, she married John Preston Chesnut at Stuart. Ardeth graduated from Casey High School, attended Iowa State University for two years and graduated from Drake University in 1962. She taught school in Stuart, Adair-Casey and Greenfield for 30 years, retiring in 1985.

Ardeth was a member of Boone United Methodist Church, the Calligraphy Arts Guild of Iowa, PEO Chapter CA of Greenfield and now Chapter JL in Boone. Ardeth enjoyed reading, playing piano, travel and spending time with family.

Her parents and sister Nedra Burnham preceded her in death.

Survivors include her sons, Scott Chesnut and wife Pattie of Boone, Lynn Chesnut and wife Phyllis of Hopkinton and Kent Chesnut and wife Robin of Titusville, Florida; seven grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Ardeth’s wishes were to be donated to Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine.

A memorial service was 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 29, at First United Methodist Church in Boone with the Rev. Doug Cue officiating. Visitation was one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone at a later date. In Ardeth's memory, memorials will be donated to the Boone Community Schools music program.
