Charles Young, 76, of Lenox died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2018, at his home in Lenox.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter. Full military graveside rites will be conducted by Theodore J. Martens VFW Post No. 1797 of Creston. The Rev. Tim Maxa will officiate. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be directed to ALS. Steen Funeral Home, 101 SE Fourth St., in Greenfield is in charge of the professional arrangements. Charles Arthur Young, son of Howard and Jessie (Read) Young, was born June 16, 1942, in Madison County. Charles grew up and was raised in Madison County. He graduated from Macksburg High School in 1961. After graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army, and served his country in Vietnam from 1964 to 1966. After serving, he worked for his father for several years.

He then moved to Lenox and began working for Tote Manufacturing, until they closed. Charles then worked for various construction jobs in the area.

Charles is survived by his sister Connie (Larry) Dahl of Orient; brothers, Duane (Kathy) Young of Creston, John Young of Winterset, Raymond (Pennie) Young of Orlando, Florida, Larry (Harriet) Young of Winterset, Gayle (Faye) Young of Des Moines and Robert (Mary Jane) Young of Winterset; special friend, Jerry Calvin and his wife Sherri and their family; other relatives and friends.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, sister Viola Briney and brother Jim Young.
