CCSD addresses school safety concern

Charges are pending against a Creston Community High School student regarding a school safety concern, according to an email from Creston Community School District superintendent Steve McDermott this morning.

In the email, McDermott said local law enforcement informed him a high school student was investigated and questioned in his home Thursday evening. During the home investigation, one of the student’s bags was searched and a handgun was discovered. The student admitted to having taken that bag with the gun to school at least once in the past.

Local law enforcement determined it to be an isolated incident and said the situation has been contained. McDermott said it has been reported to him that no threats have been made or founded.

McDermott said the student will not return to school in the “forseen future.”

“We will continue to cooperate with local law enforcement on this matter,” McDermott wrote in the email.
