8TH FOOTBALL

Glenwood game

Glenwood defeated the Creston/O-M eighth-graders on Oct. 11, 22-14.

Chris Aragon returned the opening kickoff 80 yards and Kyle Strider connected with Gannon Greenwalt for a 25-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to account for the Panther scoring.

Austin Seaton had 11 tackles (four solo) for the defense that shut out Glenwood in the second half.

Creston/O-M won the B game 6-0. Chris Aragon ran for the lone score from 28 yards. Owen Henderson rushed for 42 yards. Connor Larkin led the defense with six tackles.

Harlan game

Harlan defeated the Creston/O-M eighth-grade football team Tuesday, 35-0. Kyle Strider led the Panthers with 42 rushing yards. The Panthers were hampered by four turnovers, including two returned for touchdowns by the Cyclones.

Creston/O-M won the B game, 14-12. Kaden Street scored for Creston and Noah Felix ran in the two-point conversion. Connor Larkin returned an interception 12 yards for the winning scoring play.

7TH FOOTBALL

Glenwood game

In a battle of unbeaten teams, the Creston/O-M seventh-grade Panthers capitalized on a late-game drive to defeat Glenwood, 18-14.

Dylan Calvin scored the first touchdown on a 44-yard run. Austin Evans added an 8-yard run in the second quarter for a 12-0 halftime lead.

A blocked punt set up Glenwood for a 10-yard touchdown and two-point conversion to cut it to 12-8. The Rams added another TD late in the period to get in front, 14-12.

Creston/O-M drove the length of the field in the fourth quarter with Calvin scoring with 1:35 to play. Glenwood’s ensuing drive ended on Cael Turner’s interception.

“It was a tale of two halves,” said Panther coach Dick Clark. “We kind of owned the first half, and Glenwood the second. The boys just never got things rolling until that last drive.”

Turner completed 4 of 6 passes for 60 yards. Calvin had 18 carries for 158 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Evans rushed for 46 yards on 11 carries. McCoy Haines had a 34-yard pass reception. Sam Henry had a 14-yard catch, Will Bolinger caught one pass for 8 yards and Brandon Briley grabbed two passes for 7 yards.

Defensively, Gavin Bolton had 5.5 tackles. Finishing with 3.0 tackles were Evans, Calvin and Quinten Fuller. Briley and Turner picked off Glenwood passes.

Glenwood scored 14 unanswered points to win the B game, 20-14. Gavin Bolton scored on a 57-yard run for Creston/O-M. Later in the game, McCoy Haines took a 26-yard pass from Brady Burton to put the Panthers close and Bolton crossed the goal line again to give the Panthers the lead. Tony Davidson caught the two-point pass from Burton for a 14-6 lead.

Glenwood then controlled the second half for the 20-14 win. Bolton rushed for 81 yards and Burton was 4-9 passing for 66 yards. Antoine Lillie had two catches for 37 yards. Lillie, Dillon Starlin and Logan Weland each had two tackles.

Harlan game

Creston/O-M seventh graders outscored Harlan 40-30 on Tuesday.

The Panthers completed an undefeated season with three unanswered touchdowns in the first quarter.

Creston/O-M had 347 yards in total offense to Harlan’s 97. Gavin Bolton rushed for 109 yards and two touchdowns. Austin Evans had one scoring run and 78 yards. Cael Turner ran for 60 yards and Dylan Calvin scored twice while netting 33 yards. Calvin completed one of two passes for 38 yards to Brandon Briley. Turner connected with Brennan Hayes for 11 yards.

Briley had a 67-yard kickoff return.

On defense, Evans had three tackles including one for a 15-yard loss. Calvin had 2.5 tackles and a sack. Bolinger and Turner had 2.5 tackles.

“This was a total team effort, a total team victory,” said Creston/O-M assistant coach Jerry Hartman. “With 48 kids on the team, we try to make sure everyone has a chance to play. Everyone works hard and deserves to see time on the field.”

Creston/O-M won a shortened second game, 6-0, with Lincoln Keeler scoring the lone touchdown while accumulating 51 yards. Brady Burton gained 15 yards and Connor Wiley had 9 yards.

Denton Lane led the defense with four tackles, including a 15-yard sack. Chasin Luther had three tackles. Burton recorded a sack of 10 yards and two tackles. Logan Weland had two tackle, including one for a loss of 6 yards. Antoine Lillie finished with 2.5 tackles.
