West Howard Street update

A street renewal project which began in June may take until spring to complete.

According to Kevin Kruse, Creston public works director, the project, which involves resurfacing West Howard Street from North Sumner to North Oak streets, is at a standstill while the city waits on a phone utility company to remove some utility poles.

“We are just waiting for the ground to dry up,” said John Thatcher of Windstream Communications.

To date, the city has updated the sewer and water main from Sumner to Jarvis streets. If Windstream fails to remove the poles as planned, the city will pave the road to give residents access to their homes during the winter months and leave openings near the utility poles.

“They’re still hoping to get poured from Sycamore to Jarvis yet this fall,” said Kruse.

The purpose of the project is to resurface the roads, but the city wanted to make other updates in the process.

“That’s the time you go in and put new sewer in and water main,” said Kruse.

Updates on this project will be released as they become availalble.
