Alice Swanson, 85, of Creston died Monday, Oct. 8, 2018.

Celebration of life memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at Salem Lutheran Church in Creston. The Rev. Jeff Alvestad will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Afton. Open visitation with family present will be one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Memorials may be given to Salem Lutheran Church or Parkinson Foundation. Alice June (Huss) Swanson, daughter of Etta Pearl (Ritter) Huss and Ira Huss, was born Jan. 2, 1933, in Afton. Alice graduated from Afton High School in 1951 and went to Commercial Extension Business School in Omaha, Nebraska, for one summer.

On Feb. 27, 1954, she married Donald Swanson at Afton United Methodist Church in Afton. They settled in Afton for a short time before moving to Creston in 1955, where she worked in a variety of different positions. She was a homemaker and mother, ground instructor for pilots, teller at First National Bank and later, worked at Creston News Advertiser.

Alice is an active member of Salem Lutheran Church and Old Tyme Powers Club.

Alice is survived by her son Michael (Tami) Swanson of Monmouth, Illinois; daughter-in-law Alma Swanson of Creston; grandchildren, Amanda (Stewart) Alderson, Ashley (Matt) Majors, Alicia Swanson, Melissa (Jason) Kirkland, Jeanie Dion, Chad Culbertson, Cassie Matthews and Jesse Matthews and eight great-grandchildren.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald in 2008, son Philip and sister Carol Wilmeth.
