Iowa State students to host sixth annual Bacon Expo

AMES – Iowa State University students will be hosting the 2018 Bacon Expo from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 6 at the Jeff and Deb Hansen Agricultural Student Learning Center, located south of the ISU campus. This year’s theme is “Bacon at the Big Top,” with their efforts focusing on a bigger and better event full of all of the favorites; from food to live entertainment, Bacon Expo will have it all.

Bacon Expo is a family-friendly event that draws more than 2,000 guests annually, who come together for one common cause – bacon. Attendees have the opportunity to sample innovative bacon treats such as bacon gelato, chocolate covered bacon and maple bacon cupcakes, or to simply indulge in traditional style bacon.

Additionally, you may have the chance to participate in the bacon eating contest, watch the live entertainment or become educated on Iowa’s Pork Industry through educational games and activities.

Proceeds raised from the event support Special Olympics of Iowa, who works to provide year-round training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

Bacon Expo will continue to donate leftover bacon from the event to Food at First in Ames. Food at First serves seven hot meals a week to those in need.

Tickets for Bacon Expo are on sale now and can be purchased online at www.baconexpo.ag.iastate.edu, https://market-stuorg.sws.iastate.edu/490/product or at the door Oct. 6.
