Area volleyball roundup: Winning week for area squads

Southwest Valley 3, Stanton 2

STANTON – It took five sets, but the Timberwolves of Southwest Valley snuck out a win over Stanton Monday 21-25, 25-16, 26-24, 16-25, 15-12.

Three different Timberwolves registered double-digit kills as Jentry Schafer (15), Kayley Myers (11) and Morgan Shuey (10) were relentless on the attack.

Isabelle Inman was an essential part of the attack, passing out 41 assists in the victory.

Shuey and Alaina Currin each had 14 digs while Lexie Haer scooped 13 balls off the floor and had eight kills.

Southwest Valley combined to have 15 service aces as a team.

Southwest Valley 3, Lenox 0

CORNING – Jentry Schafer put up another double-digit kill performance as Southwest Valley swept Lenox at home Tuesday 25-15, 25-11, 25-19.

Haer had four of the Timberwolves’ nine aces on the evening and put away seven kills.

Currin led the team with 12 digs and Inman dished out 25 assists.

Shuey added another eight kills for SWV.

Myers was 19-20 serving with an additional two aces.

East Union 3, Wayne 0

CORYDON – The Eagles took care of business against Wayne Tuesday with a straight-sets win 25-11, 25-19, 25-19.

Rakenzy Prior led East Union with 10 kills while Alissa Weinkoetz was second on the squad with eight. Weinkoetz was 15-18 serving with six aces for the Eagles.

Megan Mitchell was a staple in the middle, picking up 26 assists for EU.

Numerous Eagle players recorded multiple digs as East Union scooped up 37 balls as a team.

Olivia Cheers added two solo blocks, was 12-12 serving and had two kills.

Mount Ayr 2, Stanton 0

Mount Ayr 2, Griswold 0

STANTON – Mount Ayr added two wins Tuesday in its triangular at Stanton, defeating the Vikings (25-23, 25-13) and the Griswold Tigers (25-18, 25-18) in straight sets.

Sam Stewart and Keirston Klommhaus each put up 15 kills combined in the two victories.

Klommhaus was perfect in the triangular serving, going 25-25 with two aces.

Addy Reynolds was 19-19 from behind the line with an ace as well.

Jaycee Knight combined for 27 assists in the two wins while Channler Henle added three solo blocks.

Murray 2,

Moravia 0

Murray 2, Diagonal 1

MORAVIA – The Lady Mustangs’ quality serving performance helped carry them to a 2-0 record at the Moravia Triangular Tuesday with 15 aces and going 96-105 from behind the line.

Murray defeated Moravia in straight sets (25-5, 25-12) and Diagonal in a decisive third set (25-10, 29-31, 15-8).

Bre Klein put together 11 kills in the two wins. Emma Decker was 19-19 serving and had 12 digs combined.

Twila Barber put together 18 assists over the course of both games while Kinzee Eggers added seven total kills.

Diagonal’s Emily Newton led the Maroonettes with eight kills and Erin Sobotka had a team-high 13 assists.

Alee Haidsiak had two aces, four kills, an assist and a dig in the loss.
