GRMC to increase wages, become employer of choice

In an effort to attract the best staff, Greater Regional Medical Center (GRMC) Board of Trustees is seeking to raise wages for all staff.

“We are going to make a proposal ... on behalf of the board and the leadership at Greater Regional. We feel that any individual that applies for a position at Greater Regional should be paid $12 an hour, at least,” said Monte Neitzel, CEO of GRMC.

Neitzel said he hopes that labor union SEIU Local 199 will embrace the proposal.

“We think it’s the right thing to do for our people within southwest Iowa and for anyone potentially coming in,” said Neitzel.

According to Neitzel, the vision of the organization is to become the employer of choice as well as the provider of choice in the region.

Neitzel said while it’s important to be aware of GRMC’s financial position, it’s time to adjust the market conditions. He hopes the effort will meet the growing demand for quality staff members.

“We think this is an excellent step in the right direction,” he said.
