Wolverine JV netters host quad last Monday

Nodaway Valley’s JV volleyball team hosted a quad tournament at Nodaway Valley, Sept. 10.

The Wolverines dropped a two-set match 21-10 and 21-7.

“We really struggled being able to set things up,” said coach Tina Phillippi. “Our first passes off of serve receive were either too tight to the net or behind the 10-foot line. We did not get a lot of opportunities to serve, but when we did, they were in play.”

McKynli Newbury was 4-4 with one kill in hitting. Naomi Daugherty was 3-5, followed by Macy Kuhns at 3-6.

Daugherty was 4-4 in serving, with Emma Cooney and Newbury going 3-3 and Erin Rhoads finishing 3-4.

Kuhns had six digs, while Jozie Christensen and Newbury had four apiece. Kennedy Perkey had one assist.

Grand View Christian 2, NV 1

The Wolverines dropped the match 12-21, 22-20 and 11-15.

“We improved our serve receive, which allowed us to set up the ball a lot more and to have more opportunities to serve,” Phillippi said. “These girls were down the first set and really fought hard, working together to win the second set and compete in the third set.”

Kuhns was 8-11 with a kill in hitting, followed by Cooney at 9-12 and Daugherty at 7-8 with one kill.

Cooney was 11-12 with four aces from the service line. Rose Lonsdale was 8-8 with three aces, while Rhoads finished 6-10 with one ace.

Kuhns had seven digs, with Cooney getting four and Christensen three digs. Rhoads had three assists, with Haley Longobardi getting the only block of the match.

Carroll Kuemper 2, NV 0

NV lost to Carroll Kuemper by the scores of 21-2 and 21-10.

“This match was tough,” Phillippi said.

Kuhns led in hitting at 5-5, with Daugherty going 4-5 with one kill and Madison Carstens finishing 2-2.

Whitney Lamb was 3-4 in serving, followed by Christensen at 2-2 with one ace.

Kuhns had five digs, with Lamb getting two. Rhoads had one assist.

“It was a tough night all around,” said Phillippi. “We faced some really strong competition and did not play up to our level.”

Timberwolves come back for win

Nodaway Valley got back into conference play, dropping a match to Southwest Valley Tuesday 21-9, 19-21 and 9-15.

“We started off very strong with lots of energy,” said Phillippi. “I was very proud of the hustle the girls showed all the way to the end of set three.”

Kuhns was 13-13 with three kills, followed by Daugherty at 12-13 with two kills and Cooney at 12-14 with two kills.

Kuhns was perfect from the line, going 12-12 with three aces. Rhoads was also perfect at 10-10, while Christensen finished 8-9 with three aces.

Kuhns had nine digs, followed by Cooney with eight and Christensen with seven. Hailey Hall had two blocks. Rhoads had six assists, with Newbury finishing with four.
