Iris Louise (Jones) Jimerson entered into peace Friday, May 18, 2018, at her home in Oakley, California.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at Gregg Chapel Cemetery located on Bobcat Street, Doyle Township in Clarke County.

Iris Louise Jimerson, daughter of William M. and Goldie (Carrel) Jones, was born Feb. 6, 1921, in Doyle Township, Clarke County in Iowa. She attended country school near her home, and graduated high school in Van Wert. After high school, she took exams and became a school teacher. She taught school in Westerville, and later, at Hopeville. She was remembered fondly the remainder of her life by students she taught at those schools.

When World War ll was in its early stages, she was a student again herself at Simpson College in Indianola. While attending college there, she was recruited to move to the San Francisco Bay area and worked as a welder in the massive ship building industry in Richmond. It was while working on the construction of Liberty ships, that she met the young sailor from Texas who was stationed in the Bay Area. Iris married Earnest Bolin Jimerson in Seattle, Washington, on April 4, 1944. After the war, the couple would spend time in Iowa and Texas, but soon chose to return to the Bay Area where they lived the remainder of their lives.

Iris was a homemaker for a good part of her life and a dedicated mother of six. Once her family was raised, she worked with mentally/physically challenged adults at the Local Work Training program for more than 10 years before retiring.

Iris will be remembered as a gentle person, always quick with a kind word and a smile. She loved to travel and see the wonders of this beautiful country we live in. She instilled that love of travel in her children.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, James R. (Joellen) Jimerson of Yuba City, California, Robert (Marsha) Jimerson of Creston, Barbara (Dennis) Rich of Chico, California, David (Kathy) Jimerson of Oakley, California, Daniel Jimerson of Anchor Cove, California, and Pamela (Robert) Stow of Creston; sister Alice (Betty) Ogbourne of Osceola; sisters-in-law, Dorothy (Dot) Jones of Litchfield, Minnesota, and Marie Jones of Grand River; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1999; her parents, William and Goldie; three brothers, Eugene, Dale and James Jones; and brother-in-law Alfred (Buss) Ogbourne.
