FREEPORT, Ill. — SWCC volleyball had been looking to get into a groove, and the Spartans did that in a trip to Illinois Friday, taking six sets and dropping just one in grabbing two victories.
The Spartans entered the weekend with one victory, but have now won three of their last five matches and own a 3-10 record.
SWCC emphatically defeated Highland Community College 25-9, 16-25, 25-11, 25-6.
Jada Perkins and Emily Williams hammered down 12 kills apiece while Jentri Hullinger and Hannah Ryan each added five of their own.
Ashley Porter totaled 24 assists, and Ryan led the Spartans with seven digs. Lyann Mena Rodriguez added six digs and Perkins had five.
Halee Wallace of Lenox posted three digs, while Cayla Maitlen of Creston and Danica Sunderman of Villisca added two and one, respectively.
The Spartans also knocked off Harry S. Truman College in three sets 25-15, 25-6, 25-10.
Williams’ nine kills led SWCC. Kailey Miracky added six and Ryan had five. Hullinger had four and Chelsey Trautloff posted three.
Porter and Taylor Miracle rotated among the setter spots as Porter boosted 19 kills in the win and Miracle tacked on nine more.
Mena Rodriguez’ four digs were enough to lead SWCC, which posted 23 digs as a squad.
