Carolyn Comstock, 80, of Fontanelle died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018, at Good Samaritan Society in Fontanelle.
Funeral services were 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, at United Methodist Church in Greenfield with burial in Greenfield Cemetery. A luncheon was held at the church following the committal services at the cemetery. The Rev. Eric Schubert officiated the service. Open visitation was from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, with family present from 4 to 7 p.m. at Steen Funeral Home, 101 SE Fourth St., in Greenfield. Carolyn Josephine (Bolton) (Ruth) Comstock, daughter of William Charles and Clara Josephine (Prewitt) Bolton, was born Nov. 9, 1937, on a farm north of Fontanelle in Adair County. Carolyn graduated from Fontanelle High School in 1956. Carolyn worked first for the bank in Fontanelle and then for Schildberg Construction, after she moved to Greenfield.
In September 1960, Carolyn married LeRoy (Bud) Ruth. Together they raised five children, Carol Jo, Ryan Lee, Carmen Sue, Roger Dean and Dee Ann. She worked at the automotive shop at Schildberg’s Inc. After the death of her first husband in 1983, she also worked at G&H Freight and then, Zion Treatment Center.
On Sept. 15, 1984, Carolyn married Paul Comstock at the United Methodist Church in Greenfield. They purchased a big farmhouse in rural Greenfield. She retired in 2010 from Mather Pharmacy, where she worked for approximately 11 years. After Paul died in 2014, Carolyn made the decision to sell their farmhouse and buy a smaller house in Fontanelle.
Carolyn is survived by her children, Carol Narigon of Dayton, Ohio, Ryan (Diane) Ruth of Anchorage, Alaska, Carmen (Craig) Don Carlos of Huxley, Roger Ruth of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Dee Ann Ruth of Fontanelle, Chris (Lori) Comstock of Lenox and Adam (Mindy) Comstock of Greenfield; grandchildren, Carey (Brent) Ponce, Brandon (Dakota) Narigon, Kaila Ruth, Sophie Narigon, Kalvin (Angela) Ruth, Ashlie (Shawn) Moran, Trevor Wambold, Aaron Comstock, Tanner Wambold, Rick Welsch, Tucker Wambold, Ruth Ann Welsch, Mylee and Chase Comstock; great-grandchildren, Alexis and Jaxon Ponce, Cassius Narigon, Coraline Holquistand Brody and Brysen Moran; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Richard (Dick) and Donald (Don) Bolton; husbands, Bud Ruth and Paul Comstock; and stepson Chad Comstock.
