Names released in McKinley Park shooting incident

Authorities have released the names of those involved in the shooting in McKinley Park late Monday night.

According to a press release from the Iowa Department of Public Safety, Christopher J. Cameron, 31, of Creston, has been identified as the subject who was shot. According to a pending obituary notice received by the Creston News Advertiser, services are pending for Cameron at Armstrong Funeral Home, 205 W. Monroe St., in Mount Ayr.

An autopsy was completed by the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner on Wednesday, and results from that autopsy are pending.

The press release also identifies Sergeant Jared Auten, a 12-year veteran of law enforcement, as the Creston Police officer who fired his service weapon during the incident. Auten has been placed on paid administrative leave until the completion of the investigation, per Creston Police Department policy.

No additional information was released by the Department of Criminal Investigation.
