DCI continues Scheel homicide investigation

There are no new developments in the homicide investigation of Paul Allen Scheel.

Scheel’s body was found in his residence at 300 E. Montgomery St. following a request for a welfare check by a family member the night of Feb. 14.

Mike Motsinger, special agent with the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI) said the evidence collected during the initial investigation in February at Scheel’s residence is still in various stages of testing at the DCI criminalistics laboratory.

The cause of death has not yet been released, but was ruled a homicide following the completion of an autopsy conducted by the Office of the Iowa State Medical Examiner.

“We are still working on leads,” said Motsinger.

Motsinger was unable to release information on evidence or leads as the homicide is actively under investigation.

This is an ongoing investigation. The public is asked to call the Union County Law Enforcement Center at (641) 782-8402 with any information regarding Scheel’s death.
