Leroy Calvin, 89, of Creston died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2018, at his home in Creston.

Celebration of life memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, at the Graceland Cemetery Chapel in Creston. The Rev. Mary O'Riley will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Creston. Open visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Powers Funeral Home, 601 New York Ave., in Creston. Memorials are to the family. Leroy Lewis Calvin, son of Lewis Winnis Calvin and Barbara Helen (Weatherwax) Calvin, was born May 23, 1929, in Creston. He graduated from Creston High School in 1949. Following graduation, he worked transporting hogs and was employed with Cotton Dawson Distributing. During this time, he also built bridges and worked with his brother Kenneth Calvin at Creston Transportation.

On Dec. 24, 1960, Leroy married Clara Belle Beaman in Grant City, Missouri. They resided in Creston where Leroy worked for R.E. Lewis Refrigeration. Together they had one daughter, Sherry. Clara died April 14, 1964.

In July 1987, Leroy married Jannie (Clymer) Smith in Grant City, Missouri. They made their home in Creston, where Leroy continued to work for R.E. Lewis Refrigeration, until retiring in 1993.

Leroy was a former member of the Eagles in Creston and Old Timer Tractor Club.

Leroy is survived by his daughter Sherry Calvin of Creston; grandchildren, Stacie Luddington (significant other Matthew Short), Mika Luddington and Dustin Jackson; 10 step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren, Karabella Michelle Olson and Ava Marie Short; wife Jannie Calvin of Creston; stepdaughter Diana Smith Manual of Phoenix, Arizona; stepsons, Dennis Smith of Creston, John “Bubba” Smith of Creston and Raymond Holmes of Afton; 10 step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-grandson; brother Bob Calvin of Creston; sisters, Iva May James of Stanton and Nancy Knox of Santes, California; many nieces, nephews, other family and special friend Jannetta Morrow.

Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Clara “Blondie;” brothers, Edward in infancy, Kenneth, Fred and Harvey Calvin; and sisters, Mary Calvin, Hazel Hall and Louise Kinkenon.
