Fred Silverthorn

Fred Silverthorn, 70, of Macksburg died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2018, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.

A memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, at Macksburg United Methodist Church in Macksburg. Memorials may be directed to the Silverthorn family. Online condolences may be left at www.ochiltree.com.

Freddy “Fred” Dean Silverthorn, son of Daniel Dean and Georgia Tabitha (McDonald) Silverthorn, was born Dec. 2, 1947, in Winterset. Fred graduated from Winterset High School.

On July 16, 1966, Fred married Roberta Paulette Rogers at Grace Baptist Church in Winterset. Fred spent his life working as a carpenter and house mover. He was owner of his own home moving business, Silverthorn House Moving Company, and later worked for Kennedy and Co.

Fred was a retired member of Carpenter’s Local 106.

Fred is survived by his daughters, Bobi Jo (Don) Friesen of Tyler, Texas, Melissa Deann (Doug) Eaton of Tuscola, Illinois, and Tabitha Faye (Steven) Garner of West Des Moines; five grandchildren and brothers, Dan Silverthorn of Washington, Illinois, and Sam Silverthorn of Wellington, Colorado.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents and wife Roberta.
