Doctors Dash hosts runners from five states despite rain

CORNING – Rain was needed for area farmers, lawns and flowers, but wasn’t the welcomed touch for the 2018 Doctors Dash which had 95 registered participants. Participants were from five different states: Alaska, Minnesota, Nebraska, Missouri and Iowa.

6.5 mile run: Overall winner female Ella Akin of Corning and male Dean Lammers of Corning. First through third placing in age categories female/male were: 14 and under – Mayson Hartley; 15-19 – Morgan Shuey, Sydney Westlake and Aubrey Boswell; 30-39 – Blaire Anderson; 50-59 – Wilma Osman and Betsy Akin; 50-59 – Tom Williams, Doug Oldenkamp and Tim Cooney; 60-69 – Alan Adkisson.

3.2 mile run: Overall winner female Megan Schafer of Eagle Grove and male Caleb Sorensen of Corning. First-third placing in age categories female/male were: 14 and under – Abby Potthoff, Isaac Grundman, Evan Timmerman and Adam Timmerman; 15-19 – Chloe Keefe; 20-29 – Ashlee Lee and Blake Lee; 30-39 – Liz Timmerman, Andrea Kinker, Jeni Smith, Adam Wolf, Kyle Wilson and Todd Kinker; 40-49 – Matthew Lee, Andy Timmerman and Jeff Poort; 50-59 – Angie Quist, Sheri Cooney and Cindy Williams; 60-69 – Barb Corey, Cynthia Williams, Debbie Jurshak, Perry Linn, Wayne Rychnovsky and Curtis Kinker; 70 and over – Larry Davison and Duane Osman.

3.2 mile walk: Overall winner female Megan Ramsey of Corning and male Gary O'Daniels of Creston. First-third placing in age categories female/male were: 14 and under – Jesse Higgins, Maxwell Ramsey and Mark Ramsey; 20-29 – Shonda McCuen and Madison Shuey; 30-39 – Maggie Parrish, Jamie Horton and Becky Bissell; 40-49 – Adam Grundman; 50-59 – Tammy Newton, Amy Funk, Nancy Turner, Scott Shuey and Tracy Burroughs; 60-69 – Diane Carlson and Paula Sink; 70 and over – Denise Swartz.

One mile walk: Overall winner female Leslie Brumfield of Shannon City and male Scott Wilson of Corning. First-third placing in age categories female/male were: 20-29 – Jessica Vanik; 50-59 – Rosalie Lamb; 70 and over – Edna Carl and Carolyn Burroughs.

Several youth from the 2018 Kids Camp attended and participated free as part of the camp.

Corning Hy-Vee provided post-race fruit and Southwest Iowa Cruisers provided water for the participants.Twenty-eight volunteers were a special part of the success of the event which started and finished in downtown Corning. Mercy Health Care Foundation and CHI Health Mercy Corning Community Wellness staff coordinated the event. All proceeds from the event benefit area youth programs provided by CHI Health Mercy Corning.
