Another gas station?

From Gary O’Daniels

Creston

The question of the week — does Creston really need another gas station? The Creston community currently has — six Casey’s, a B-P full-service station, the Gavilon gas pumps and the Fast Stop gas pumps — nine places to purchase fuel in a community of approximately 8,000.

That means there is one place to purchase fuel in Creston for every 888 members of the community. We probably have the most gas stations per capita in the state of Iowa.

Currently all of the gas stations are selling gas at the same price, so what’s the benefit of bringing in another station that sells gas at the same price as all of the others?

It would seem that if Hy-Vee really would like to better serve our community, instead of adding a gas station to their offerings, our community would benefit more if they added their Hy-Vee market dining options to their store. This option would provide another dining opportunity for not only Creston, but all of those who live in the area and would probably increase the number of those who shop at Hy-Vee.

If it’s not too late, maybe those who make these decisions can reconsider.
