Carroll Family Chiropractic has a new home

It took a few years, but Carroll Family Chiropractic is finally in its new home at 203 W. Adams St., across the street from the Creston Depot.

Gabe and Linda Carroll bought the building, which was actually two buildings built in 1880, in 2014, and got down to the business of making the space what people see now.

“Up to last fall, we’ve done a lot of demolition work, fixed the roof – we had some beams that had rotted out from water damage – re-coated the roof, cleaned out a lot of the basement. Tore everything out basically,” said Gabe Carroll, co-owner of Carroll Family Chiropractic.

The Carrolls realized in the fall they couldn’t continue without a little help, so they contacted Connie and Dennis Purdum with a proposal. Gabe said they asked the Purdums if they wanted to buy the building and then the Carrolls could continue from where they were and finish the project. The Purdums countered with the idea that they would pay for the structural work and the Carrolls would pay for the work outside, and finally an agreement was made between them that will eventually, in the future, return the building to sole ownership by the Carrolls.

Carroll Family Chiropractic opened in 2009 on North Pine Street. Gabe said, even after nearly 10 years, he still has people telling him they didn’t know he and Linda had an office in town.

“It’s part of what we really like about our new space,” he said. “The visibility is better. More drive-by traffic, more walk-by traffic, that kind of stuff. So hopefully, people will start to pick up on where we’re at now. We’re kind of working on some ideas for signage that will let people know what is available within our office.”

Within Carroll Family Chiropractic, in addition to chiropractic services, patients can get a massage from Tori Fienhage of Mrs. T’s Massage, a facial or microdermabrasia treatment from Becky Gonseth of Nu-U Skin Care and Linda also offers her services as an acupuncturist. Gabe can also do massages, but said with Fienhage available, he has stepped away from that somewhat.

He added that there was office space available for one other person if they could find someone who blended well with what they already offer.

“We’re always trying to stay on top of what’s coming out – new therapies, that kind of stuff – so if an opportunity presents itself that we think would fit well, we’ll look into adding that, but we don’t have any definitive plans at this time,” he said. “I think we would work well with a number of different types of providers in conjunction with the chiropractic stuff, so we’re kind of open to whatever works naturally.”

Uptown has seen a lot of changes recently and will see more in the coming months and years, and Gabe said he’s excited to be part of what is happening. That was part of the reason he chose to purchase the building. Between the complete renovation of Mario’s Sports Bar and Grill, the renovation of the building Carroll Family Chiropractic occupies and the Union County Development Association project on West Montgomery Street, people are coming back and investing in the buildings uptown.

“Part of our thinking is we want to be part of that process of kind of revitalizing everything,” Gabe said. “There’s a lot of exciting things happening, lots of stuff bubbling up, I think, once we start building a little more momentum, and, hopefully, this is part of that. It’s kind of exciting to see the potential of what could happen if we keep on the same track.”

Gabe said without the support of so many people, he and Linda could not have accomplished this update and relocation.

“We’re incredibly fortunate to have the support that we’ve had to get here in the first place,” he said. “We couldn’t have done it without my parents and her parents and the Purdums, obviously. My dad put in countless hours working up here doing demolition. We’re just really thankful. Of course, the community has been supportive since we’ve moved back, too. It couldn’t have happened without everybody else helping us along the way.”
